about
Birds & Batteries was an indie-rock/expirimental-pop band based and beloved in the Bay Area of California from 2004-2012, led by songwriter and frontman, Mike Sempert.
In '04, Sempert recorded an LP of demos titled Nature vs Nature, and moved cross-country to San Francisco where he eventually assembled a live band with drummer Brian Michelson, bassist Jill Heinke and guitarist Christopher Walsh. The band went on to release four critically acclaimed albums in total and two EPs, which were hailed by Pitchfork, The Fader and NPR among others.
The band toured the US extensively between '08 and '12, and performed at major festivals like SXSW, Noise Pop, Mission Creek among others.
